FY2019 Olympus CSR Environment Month
UN World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year. June also marks the annual Olympus Environmental Awareness Month event, through which Olympus has conducted activities intended to raise environmental awareness for over 40 years. In FY2018, we expanded the scope of our activities to cover not only environmental issues, but also CSR matters, carrying out various initiatives as part of the Olympus CSR Environment Month. Here we will introduce the main events and activities implemented by the Olympus Group throughout the world in FY2018 during the 43rd Olympus CSR Environment Month in FY2019.

Coral Reef Protection Efforts
As an official supporter of the International Year of the Reef 2018*, Olympus has been involved in a variety of coral conservation initiatives, including baby coral planting in the sea near Okinawa, co-sponsorship of ex situ coral observation sessions for children at aquariums, and coral conservation seminars for Olympus employees.
* A global campaign aimed at educating people about the importance of coral ecosystems and the dangers they face, which encourages everyone to take action. Olympus has been appointed by Japan's Ministry of the Environment as an official supporter of this cause.

Helping to Educate Future Generations
Today's children will be responsible for shaping the world of tomorrow. Olympus conducted workshops to teach children about the many ways that Olympus, through its products, attempts to solve the challenges faced by society. These workshops also helped children to better understand the importance of health and stimulated their interest in science.

Third Book Donation Drive in OLYMPUS
Olympus donated to the Japan Fund for Global Environment (JFGE) through the Book Donation Drive, which is an initiative in which Book Off, a chain of used bookstores in Japan, purchases books, CDs, DVDs, and games that are no longer needed at home and in the workplace. The purchase price of each item is then donated to the Japan Fund for Global Environment (JFGE), which is operated by the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency of Japan. The JFGE will in turn fund environmental conservation projects in Japan and abroad. As a result, a total of 3,802 books and CDs were donated by Olympus employees all across Japan.
